5 BEST Canadian Skincare Brands - Food For Your Skin

Today I want to talk to you about the most important organ of your body… SKIN! 

I’m going to start off by saying the skin is the most important vessel on our bodies because it is our barrier of our internal organs and our protector of Mother Nature’s elements, helps regulate body temperature, and permits the wonderful sensations of touch.

It’s fairly common these days for most of us to be more aware of the foods we put in our body; knowing that GMO is a big NO-NO and organic foods are the way to go. Organic simply means the product was farmed and produced with natural resources and is not processed through radiation or synthetic additives (which are incredibly toxic to our delicate bodies!).

So why is it when we are now being so careful as to what we put IN our bodies that we forget to consider what goes ON our bodies?

Allow me to introduce to you some of my current favourite skincare products that are made locally (Canadian made for the win!) and created with the most beautiful, natural and ORGANIC ingredients that will nourish and balance your skin and help you look vibrantly stunning. 

Coconut Oil

You have probably heard and know already how incredible coconut oil is for your skin and I am here to reiterate that. I love using my organic, virgin, raw, cold-pressed coconut oil daily for my cooking however it is also an AMAZING makeup remover and moisturizer. I always have a small tin of coconut oil in my medicine cabinet at the ready for a quick makeup removing fix. To use, I just take a dime size amount and rub the oil on my eyelids then take a natural makeup remover cloth (I’m currently loving Josie Marans Bear Naked wipes) and wipe away. It’s such a smooth and easy process AND my face smells like yummy coconuts! My current favourite brand is Silkeny. Silkeny is based out of Richmond Hill, Ontario and I choose their product as I find it to the most pure coconut oil on the market. They source their coconuts out of Sri Lanka and carefully cold-press to create the creamiest, decadent and most high quality coconut oil. 

Consonant Foaming Face Wash

Consonant is a fantastic Canadian company (based in Toronto) that creates organic skin care products for all skin types. Their most popular product, and my current fave, is the foaming face wash. I LOVE this face wash because it cleanses so beautifully and contains nourishing botanicals of organic tea tree oil and grape seed oil. These ingredients help to hydrate and eliminate uneven skin tone. The best part, in my opinion, is the ingredients in this product help to restore the pH balance in your skin! This is an excellent add-on as you don’t have to follow up with a toner and your skin is left feeling completely rejuvenated. 

Skin Essence Organics “Fresh” Facial Cleanser

I love washing my face so much that I’m going to recommend another face cleansing product for you. This cleanser from Skin Essence Organics is a life - and skin - changer. Made with concentrated oils of coconut, lemongrass, coriander seed and rosemary leaf extract, it is exceptionally nourishing. Actually, the term I like to use for this product is “healing” as I truly believe this product has healed my skin from my acne scars and dryness. This cleanser also contains witch hazel extract which is a great in-product toner. 

Skin Essence Organics “Facial In A Jar” Exfoliant Mask

You’re going to be reading a lot about Skin Essence Organics by me because I am crazy for this company. This mask is really unlike any other exfoliant product on the market as the White Kaolin Clay that is used for exfoliation is ground up very small which assists in a very gentle application for my sensitive skin. This is also a very unique product as it comes in powder form in a jar that you add your own choosing of amount of water to create a mud-like consistency or something more watery for an overall cleanser/exfoliant. I highly recommend this product for the winter time to take away dead skin cells! 

Skin Essence Organics Rose Hip Seed Oil

Back at it with the Skin Essence! After exfoliating and cleansing, you definitely want to replenish and hydrate the skin with a moisturizer. Lots of face creams on the market are filled with synthetic ingredients and preservatives that do not serve your skin. Instead, I like to opt for one or two ingredient products that do the trick as good, actually BETTER, than the creams with 50 ingredients that I can’t even pronounce. Pure rose hip oil offers incredible antioxidant benefits to the skin such as improving skin tone and preventing sun damage. It’s filled with vitamin A and C which help reduce any scarring. Ever since using rose hip as a moisturizer, I’ve noticed significant difference in the tone of my skin.

Parkdale Butter Co. Espresso Face Balm

This is my go-to moisturizer in the morning. It smells like coffee which wakes me up with a major boost! I don’t always drink coffee but I love the smell and this gets my java fix just fine. I rub this beautiful blend of soy butter and green bean essential oil (that’s it - only TWO ingredients!) on my face in the mornings after cleansing and it instantly nourishes and protects my skin.
