Bulletproof Your Morning with SUPERFOOD Coffee
When I first heard about bulletproof coffee a couple years back, I was completely intrigued. Butter in my coffee? Yum! However not so yum when I didn’t do the right research and would brew just regular ground coffee and throw a slab of butter in my cup and watch it dissolve with the sugar. Not understanding why I wasn’t feeling any different (actually felt worse) than I was when I would drink my regular cup and feel that “normal” caffeine rush and crash within a few hours, I soon faded away from coffee in general.
Skip ahead to today and my vision on bulletproof coffee has COMPLETELY transformed. Within the last year, I’ve done more research and experimenting in the kitchen with the bulletproof recipe - even visited the Bulletproof Cafe in Los Angeles - while becoming very accustomed to superfoods and have been incorporating them into pretty much every meal and drink.. and that includes coffee.
A standard Bulletproof recipe calls for:
- Coffee beans
- Grass-Fed Butter
- MCT oil
These days, I don’t skimp on my beans and I love finding the best. My current favourite coffee is the Youngevity Organic Java Impact. These beans already make this coffee a superfood recipe because of it’s delicious blend of organic beans enhanced with medicinal mushrooms like chaga, reishi, and lions mane (my three favourite type of mushrooms). I’ll get more into these mushrooms in another blog post but for now, all you need to know is these superfoods increase your health substantially and are an amazing add-on to this coffee recipe.
This lovely lady is over-sensualizing this amazing coffee.. as she should, it's sexy!
These days, I never skimp on my butter either. Grass-fed butter will assist in digestive support and contains GOOD FOR YOU fat soluble vitamins that can actually help you lose weight (if you’re trying to). Personally, I haven’t noticed any weight loss since going Bulletproof but I also haven’t noticed any weight gain either - so whether that’s true or not I will leave that up to your own testing. My current butter of choice is by Kiwi Pure.
Rolling Meadows company has an awesome line of grass-fed dairy products, including their Kiwi Pure grass-fed butter. Yum!
Bulletproof has done an amazing job in developing a product called Brain Octane. It’s a bottle of MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) oil that is 18x stronger than coconut oil and is easier to digest and burn fat. It’s called brain octane because it supports cognitive function - basically I believe it makes you smarter.
As much as I love using Brain Octane in my coffee, XCT oil is another powerful option
No recipe is complete without my own touch of superfoods. I honestly add superfoods to everything. My favourites to add to Bulletproof coffee are:
- Maca root (increases endurance) Mesquite (for a slight nutty flavour and protein - also helps balance blood sugar!)
- Lucuma (for slight maple-flavoured sweetness)
- Cordyceps, Lions Mane, or Chaga mushroom
- And sometimes I’ll add in Cacao to make a mocha!
The question I’d love to answer is Why add superfoods to a coffee that has multiple health benefits already?
I add superfoods to my coffee to add nutritional benefits that Brain Octane and grass fed butter don’t supply. For example, mesquite and lucuma have a low glycemic index which helps keep blood sugar low (if you require that sort of thing) and mushrooms like cordyceps and chaga are very immune boosting and energy increasing, which compliments the caffeine boost.
So, give this delicious and nutritious drink a try and come back to this page to let me know what you think!
Cheers and happy mornings.
