Flawless Camera-Ready Makeup (Video)
One of my favourite routines in the morning is my makeup routine. I love putting on my war paint as I get ready to take charge of my day. For the past three years, I have been pursuing a professional acting career and within that time I have tried numerous foundations, concealers, blushes, and highlighters that have stood to the test of the camera lens. I am always rotating my routine as I am always on the search for new products and I am my own personal test monkey. I love to play!
This is my current routine for a flawless face for when I am getting in front of the camera:

Tarte “Clean Slate” 12-hr Perfecting Primer
I like this primer because it’s waterproof - meaning my makeup won’t melt off my face during the heatwave Toronto seems to be going through right now. This is a vegan, paraben-free and plant based product that I also notice is very hydrating from the avocado and grapeseed oil.
I find face primers to be an essential product in my routine because I notice how much longer the foundation stays on than without it. Going for a “poreless” primer seems to work best (for me) as it makes my skin look very even and dewy on camera.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hr Full Coverage Foundation
I usually buy the same brand of primer and foundation because I have this theory that if I ever mixed brand, the makeup would suck. This probably isn’t true but there are just some theories I like to stick to. It allows me to play around with more product!
This is the first time I’ve used Tarte, and I have to say so far I am really impressed. With the primer, this foundation really does last roughly 12 hours and I am thoroughly happy with the way it makes my skin look on camera. You can tell in my YouTube video how much more even my skin looks in comparison to prior application. It’s a buildable coverage too which I love so I can always add more product in areas I want to really spot conceal.
KIKO Full Coverage Concealer
This concealer is AWESOME! I love the coverage and it honestly lasts forever. I like the packaging too - the pot is so convenient for travel and touch ups. I don’t have a whole lot to say about it except it really covers my under eye circles and any other spots.
Origins “Plantscription” Anti-aging concealer
I use two concealers for on-camera makeup because I want my makeup to last and look completely flawless, so I cake it up!
Origins provides amazing spot concealer. This products dries QUICKLY so I have to act fast when using this but my God does it last. Another plant based product, I feel good about the ingredients I am putting on my skin with this.
Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation
I first found out about this product when I was on set for a music video. A flawless, vegan face powder that covers any and all imperfections. I could wear this without liquid foundation and still get full, flawless coverage. However I like to use powder foundation to set my liquid makeup so the makeup REALLY lasts all throughout a shoot day.
MAC Bronzer in “Refined Golden”
I’m on the hunt for a new plant based, possibly organic bronzer but for now I am using this one from MAC. It’s a nice neutral bronzed colour for any skin tone and I like to use this for contouring. Contouring is key when doing camera makeup as you accentuate your cheek bones and get the opportunity to sculpt and “manipulate” the lens.
MAC Blush in “Cream Soda”
Any blush will do at this point, but I like to use this one because 1) it’s in my collection and 2) it suits my skin tone really well. When doing your own makeup, you want to choose a blush colour that looks incredibly natural on camera. This definitely takes some trial and error as I have some clips from past experiments where I looked completely like a clown.
And that’s pretty much it! I like to keep things simple and straight to the point so I really hope this helps. I usually use this routine daily when I am going out and seeing people. I like to treat every day as an opportunity to look #flawless and this current routine helps with that!
